Repton 1: The Latest News
Plus the First View of Ravenskull |
||||
Our new PC software is scheduled to begin rolling out this month, and we will email the next issue of the newsletter to you as soon as our Repton 1 software is available from the Superior Interactive website. There are a total of 32 main game levels for Repton 1, ranging from easy to very difficult; and 20 special levels designed for youngsters are also going to be included. Children often enjoy the Repton games, but sometimes find that the main adult-orientated levels are a little too difficult for them, at least until confidence has been built up by playing through some simple levels first. So 20 bonus levels have now been specially created, comprising 10 levels intended for youngsters aged 3 to 6, and 10 levels designed for juniors aged 7 to 9. These new levels have been mainly designed by the multi-talented Galaforce Worlds programmer, Ian Rees, in close consultation (many happy moments of play-testing) with his 6-year-old daughter, Chloe. The attractive level designs and the graduated advancement in skill required to complete these levels mean that young children can enjoy Repton, and experience the satisfaction of completing some Repton levels for themselves. At their own pace they can steadily build up their skills – eventually maybe moving onto the 32 main Repton 1 levels. Chloe loves these carefully designed levels, and the appeal of the Repton games has widened again: they are popular across a very broad age range, to men and women, boys and girls alike. The next games we have lined up after Repton 1 are Galaforce Worlds and Ravenskull. We gave some details of Galaforce Worlds last time – it is a brilliant space game; detailed information and a revised screen picture are shown at the Superior Interactive website. We can now show you a screen picture from Ravenskull, which is an impressive and thought-provoking adventure game. In the central part of the picture, there is a green monster intently barring the way to some treasure, and a Ravenbee is flying past the spike disks shown on the left-hand side of the picture. We will be including two adventures, Castle Ravenskull, and a much larger and more challenging adventure called Castle Danube. This screen picture shows part of the first level of Castle Danube. Like the Repton games and Galaforce Worlds, the Ravenskull software has extensive editing features for creating your own levels, and the Ravenskull puzzles are programmed using a cleverly versatile scripting system called RavenScript. We will be adding Ravenskull screen pictures and software details to the website within the next few weeks. Several readers have kindly created links from their websites to the Superior Interactive website, and some of you have asked me whether we have any specific banners or images that can be included on your websites. A webpage showing some Repton banners (banners for Galaforce Worlds and Ravenskull will follow soon) and Superior logos is now available online at: www.superiorinteractive.com/banners.htm We have included one animated Repton banner, showing two very complimentary customer comments. One of our customers, Dominic Ford, described the appeal of Repton, concluding with his expressive remark: "A work of genius." As with all of our software, considerable teamwork has been involved in creating the Repton software. Over 20 people have been involved in the development of the Repton games, and I'll mention some more of them as the games are published, but foremost of all the game's creator, Tim Tyler, certainly deserves to be credited and acknowledged. He is also the mastermind of many of the Repton level designs, and his Repton 1 levels gradually introduce new elements and puzzles in a very well-structured way. Tim's skilful planning and creative work is the cornerstone for the compliments and praise that the software receives; to quote Dominic Ford again: "Repton is the greatest game ever in my opinion. It is easy-to-learn and utterly addictive. Every level brings a new challenge." If you would like to see any particular banners, logos or other features, such as desktop wallpaper or screensavers, please let me know. My email address is: richard@superiorinteractive.com It's a very exciting time as the new software is coming to fruition after many months of development. Our team has been working hard to produce games to be proud of, and we hope that you all get great enjoyment from our software! Best wishes, Richard Hanson, Superior Interactive |
